Martha Freud Design was commissioned by Firmdale Hotels to create a new 'mixed messages' piece for its Dorset Square Hotel. The piece contains 192 individually crafted cups which light up at programmed intervals to display various comments and quotes on the theme of 'cricket'. (Dorset Square is the site of the old Lords Cricket Ground.)

Wootton & Dawe created a switching mechanism using row/column scanning. It was wired and made to work with help from Alexandra Raben-Levetzau. Alex also created lovely diagrams, essential for keeping track of the 100s of metres of wire running along the 5m long artwork.
